CSHS Boys Lacrosse heads to playoffs!

The Coral Springs High School boy’s lacrosse team has finally begun developing into a force to be reckoned with. Years after the team originally started, they have formed a cohesive program that will only continue getting better. Lacrosse team captain and CSHS senior Brendan Kenny says, “I’ve been playing lacrosse for 7 years, and it really means a lot to me.”

This is Brendan’s fourth year on the team, and his time playing for the school has not only improved his own skill, but the trajectory of the program. The young captain was forced into a difficult position when the Coaches from the 21’-22 season accepted coaching positions at different locations. The team was left without a coach.

Brendan reached out and was able to find coach Trevor Pletl. He has now been coaching the team for two years, getting the team their first win in over 4 years! Although there is a long way for the team to go, they practice every day and are constantly reaching for success.

The team won their first official game this season against Okeechobee High School. Spirits were high in the 11-2 game; various returning players scored their first goals of the season.

Brendan Kenny, a defensive long-pole, scored a goal during the Okeechobee game. This is very difficult to do with the type of stick defensemen use, and their position on the field. “I was just so happy to score, it’s a big moment for me.”

Khristian Toledo, a Sophomore and second-year player scored five goals in the game! He is very passionate about the program and the sport, never letting up and pushing himself to achieve higher in the game.

“I play midfield, and honestly, lacrosse is the best sport. It has everything! Physicality, teamwork, friendship, they’re some of the most important aspects of lacrosse.” He practices extensively and is looking forward to his future career in the sport.

After last season concluded the lacrosse booster was officially instated in the school. President Melissa Kenny says, “I love helping my child play the sport he loves and is so passionate about!” This is her second year as booster president, and she is constantly putting in the work to make sure the team is growing and developing.

Elijah Hannah, a second-year

player, scored his first career goal against Pompano High School on the March 19th home game. “This sport means a lot to me, it’s just a fun sport, I think everyone should give it a chance.”

At every home game, she takes pictures of the team as they play, capturing heartwarming moments between players on and off the field. She is also in charge of the concession stand, which sells chips, crackers, chocolate, cookies, and various drinks. All funds go directly back into the program. “I love being able to collaborate with the other parents, school leaders, the team/coaches, and the community to help support and grow the lacrosse program,” says another parent in the booster.

Sebastian Rapetti, a sophomore at CSHS, attended his first-ever lacrosse game this year. “It was great getting to see my friends play a game they love. I hope to come to more games this season!” The lacrosse games offer an easy way for students to learn a new sport since lacrosse isn’t televised on major stations.

Melissa Kenny is confident in the future of the program. “This program has come a long way since my child joined four years ago, and I believe it will only keep developing.” As the team continues to grow, more people are joining and coming to watch. Don’t miss your opportunity to learn the sport while you can!

Although this season is coming to an end, the players are gaining more experience every year. The team is fighting an uphill battle with more force and determination than ever! They will be playing their first game in the playoffs next week.
