After much trial and error, Principal Dixon has successfully completed his first semester at Coral Springs High School.
Since Principal Dixon started his journey at Colt Country, there have been many positive improvements across multiple areas of concern. Whether it is tardies or students wanting more engaging activities, Dixon has constantly ensured that everyone’s needs are met.
While discussing his first year at CSHS, Dixon explained that he felt very lucky. Dixon stated “I’m in the middle of the school year that’s already going, systems are already in place, so as I came in it was more of learning the culture of the school, learning the systems that are in place, making minor tweaks and modifications as I went along, going to lots of sporting events, activities, meeting parents and student, hosting my dining with Dixon events monthly so it was an incredible experience to start”
Even though there have been multiple great events that have happened at CSHS over the past 6 months, Dixon’s favorite was going to watch Shrek the Musical. He explains that he and his family are big Shrek fans so going to watch the musical was very fun and relaxing for them. Dixon stated, “The acting and singing were incredible.”
When Dixon first started at CSHS, the thing that took him by surprise the most was the overwhelming amount of tardies that occurred at school. Dixon stated” I’ve worked at 3 other schools and the tardiness here is much different than I’ve seen at other schools” and “That was not something I anticipated having to deal with my first few months here.” Dixon also talked about how the teachers insisted that he did something to help with this serious problem. He stated, “I truly believe that if students aren’t in class they can’t learn.”
While there have already been changes put in place to improve our school, Dixon still has changes that he is planning for the upcoming school year. Dixon explained how he slowly started to implement his policies to get students adjusted and prepared for the full effects that would take place next school year.
When Dixon was asked about Colt pride, he stated, “Colt pride is students being enthusiastic” and “the one thing that students continue to tell me the best thing about the school is our teachers, and so the teachers, friends, the clubs, the sports, students get really excited that, and that’s really exciting to see.”
