On April 4th, the Minecraft Movie was released into theaters all over the United States and has achieved great success so far.
As of April 8th, Minecraft Movie has made $163 million in its domestic box office debut and internationally it has had a revenue of $313 million in sales. The movie is still being shown in theaters currently and has already surpassed the amount of money it took to make the movie; the movie cost $150 million to produce.
The Actual Movie
The Minecraft movie is a PG rating movie so it’s suitable for the whole family! When watching it the movie was very kid-friendly and, of course, with little inserts of older suited references and comedy, making it a great movie for the family.
The movie revolves around four main characters whose lives start to intertwine until they eventually find themselves in the Overworld, where they meet Steve.
Who has been stuck there for years, and he aids them in trying to go back to the normal world.
In their quest to get back home, they face an antagonist and have to fight against the dangers of the overworld while trying to survive.
The adventure they have makes them realize and learn lessons while building a future around them and building success for them in the real world: from making a character’s business or career successful to generally improving the lives of the characters.
The characters were all lovable and silly, perfect for the target audience of children but they all had a little to them that made it entertaining for an adult audience. Though some scenes were more favorable than others due to the influence of social media, specific lines: “Chicken Jockey” or “I am Steve” made viewers excited on social media about the movie.
The movie didn’t seem to be made to have a serious plot line with crazy developments. It was a light and funny movie and was designed that way. The plot line was basic but enjoyable.
Social Media Response/ Reactions
When the movie was dated to release many people shamed the fact that it was live-action since there have been previous productions of mini shows or movies or just videos done by YouTubers that were all animated based on the actual game. With the actual game models and everything rather than a person in front of a green screen.
Online many people predicted it to be bad, especially since its teasers and trailer were not what was expected. With it being live-action and some parts of the movie not being truly factual to the game.
Such as what can be built on a crafting table and introducing the fact that there is an Earth to begin with.
Though most people (adults) now believe that the plotline was bland and basic, they enjoyed it either way. There was a, mostly, social understanding that the movie was designed to make it entertaining to kids.
There was no need for it to have an over-complicated plot or very round or complicated characters, but it had to be enjoyable and funny for kids to understand and consume. And that it did achieve.
For the most part, many kids really loved the movie, it was funny and the concept of that alone could lead to its success. Seeing a game that they play being made realistically is what made the movie special and many adults who watched it agreed as well.
Though its hyper-realism is also what people said was its downfall. People believe that if they were to have made it an animated movie it would have had even greater success.
Overall
In conclusion, the movie was good. It might have reached the expectations that people had when it was revealed that a Minecraft movie was released, but it didn’t really disappoint.
The movie was silly and unserious and was enjoyable for most to watch. The animation was also good and for the most part, so was the acting. It wasn’t an award-winning movie, but it was bad either, it was good and will definitely be a movie a family can watch over and over again.
