Teacher Of the Year: Ms. Mortimer!

Amanda Mortimer was selected to be the 2024-2025 teacher of the year. In 2015, Mortimer got her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education and Communication, from the University of Florida. Now, in 2024, she is working towards getting her Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Mortimer had been teaching for 10 years. She teaches Agricultural Science and coaches the Coral Springs High School cheerleading team.

One of the reasons Mortimer stands out is her caring and impactful personality. “What inspired me as a teacher,” said Mortimer, “was that I made a difference in my student’s lives and helped them unlock their untapped potential.”

In 2019, Mortimer participated in an On the Farm STEM project in New York. This STEM program is designed to bring a team of educators with experts in science education and agricultural science to envision a model for science learning that will inspire today’s students.

Mortimer is deeply involved in the school community. She is a leader in extracurricular activities like the Varsity cheerleading coach, Competition cheerleading coach, and FFA (Future Farmers of America) Advisor.

The respect and admiration she receives from both colleagues and students alike highlights her unwavering commitment to making education an enriching and supportive experience for all.

“Community inspires me because I have seen how it has catapulted my life, and in turn, I strive to do the same in my classroom. I’ve made the classroom a home where we gather, share, and grow,” said Mortimer. “The walls and soil-covered floors tell our story, filled with student work and reminders of the bonds that have been built. This micro-community we’ve created provides a space where students can feel safe and seen and provides a fun learning environment.”

With teachers like Mortimer, the future of education looks even brighter than ever. Coral Springs High and the entire community extend their heartfelt congratulations and thanks for her tireless dedication to the students and the field of education.

“This sense of belonging through our classroom community that I know I can provide for my students inspires me…,” said Mortimer, “which makes a difference.”
