On January 23, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order related to the Assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Trump’s motives for declassifying had appeared during his presidential campaign while he explained to his followers that the truth would finally be set free.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT DECLASSIFYING?
To declassify something (such as records or documents) means removing the security classifications and restrictions on who can view government documents and making them available to the public for everyone to see.
Depending on the information, a government document can usually be declassified for a long time. The original classification authority forms a specific date for the declassification, which adds up to 25 years.
This means top secret documents about certain things can be hidden from the public without them knowing the truth or false information for more than a decade.
THE DECLASSIFICATION
Since his first presidential term, Donald Trump has been releasing thousands of documents relating to Kennedy’s Assassination.
Trump’s true intentions to reveal the truth were for the restoration of “transparency and accountability to government”.
The executive order the president signed was mostly aimed at declassifying the remaining federal records the government had been keeping hidden from the assassination of JFK and MLK Jr.
“Their families and the American people deserve all records and truth. It is in the national interest to finally release all records related to these assassinations without delay.” the executive order stated.
Adding an aide to Trump before the order, Former President Joe Biden declassified more than 16,000 documents of John F. Kennedy between 2021 and 2023.
With this support, they shed additional light on the events and the truth.
THE PUBLIC OPINION
The public, who have been eager for the government to get exposed, have been delighted with Donald Trump’s move to declassify JFK and MLK Jr’s documents.
“I feel like Trump’s actions of releasing those files, are too personal for the public to witness.” 10th Grader Nicholas Noble.
His overall plan, to justify the government and its national security to the public, had given him the advantage of helping people understand the grievous harms caused by government neglect of certain information.
