How to salvage your skin this winter
Skin Goals

Have you ever tried the popular filters where you see how you would look like as you get older? Those filters usually scare us as our skin looks different. In this article, we’ll go through some tips you can receive to prevent those pesky skin issues.

Skincare is support towards our skin for our appearance, protection, and to relieve any skin condition. Everyone’s skin is different, as some may have dry, oily, combination and even acne-prone skin. Skin concerns such as acne appear in different areas but mostly where oil produces more like the t-zone area (forehead going to nose and chin).

As we grow our hormones change, making our body different. As children, we would practically wash our face with water only; but as we age, we’ll need to start using the proper facial products to have our skin look at our absolute best.

The skin on our face has three barriers: the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. We need proper face skincare to prevent skin issues. Sun light exposure can help prevent any issues towards our skin as the UV (ultraviolet) radiation can cause pre-ageing early, wrinkles, sensitive skin and even melasma.

When it comes to washing our skin, not only do we have to have a routine, we also need to be very consistent with that routine. Most routines can be basic depending on your skin, but the most basic routines can start with a face wash, moisturizer, and most importantly sunscreen (daylight use only).

Starting with dry skin, it can get your skin to have a rough texture as if you did not feel like you applied enough moisturizer. Dry skin is quite common among people.

The top favorite face wash brands, and approved by dermatologists for dry skin, would be La Roche Posay’s Hydrating Gentle Cleanser, Cerave’s Hydrating Cleanser and Cetaphil’s Hydrating

Cleanser. These are great to be used morning and night, and can be very gentle which is great for sensitive skin as well!

Moisturizer is important for dry skin. There needs to be a very great moisturizer to have the moisturizer soak into our skin for you to have your skin hydrating. Cerave’s Moisturizing Cream is a very great moisturizer as it feels very hydrating and soaks in fast.

Moving into oily skin. Oil tends to cause more issues, such as clogging pores, and can lead to causing for acne breakouts. One tip concerning face wash is to stay away from anything that has oil involved, as your face may produce much more oil.

Considering face wash and moisturizer, it would be great to get products such as a matte moisturizer (any brand) and Cerave’s or Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Cleanser.

Blotting paper can be used for oily skin. It is a very highly absorbent type of paper that can absorb excessive amounts of oil.

Lastly, let’s talk about acne-prone skin. Acne tends to come everywhere. Acne can be classified as whiteheads, ingrown pimples, blackheads, etc. Teenagers tend to suffer with acne specifically, which is mainly caused by our rapid change in hormones. When it comes to acne, we must be careful with the products we use, as our skin can grow irritated and break out even more.

As a teen who suffers with acne and has sensitive combination skin, it can get frustrating purchasing products and seeing no improvement. Many products have clog-poring elements and even chemicals that are very harsh on the skin.

Acne was something that affected me. With my skin type, I would always have trouble finding the proper face products. With the help of my dermatologist Doctor Latanya Benajmin, I was able to find the help I needed for my skin.

The proper face wash that helped with my acne was the Cetaphil’s 2.6 Benzoyl Peroxide Gentle Cleanser. Moving along to prevent any acne scars, I would use La Roche Posay Adapalene Gel 0.1 Retinoid; not a strong, as I have extremely sensitive skin. The moisturizer that suited me best was La Roche Posay’s Double Repair Moisturizer.

Everyone’s skin is different, so face products will vary on different skin. This winter, take some time to research skincare based upon your skin type and find a product that suits your skin. If possible, you could also reach out to a dermatologist to help you with your skin as well.
