On Thursday, August 24th former president Donald Trump was arrested in the state of Georgia. Trump and 18 others of his presidential team members were taken to jail for around 20 minutes where they took Trump’s mugshot, fingerprinted, and released him.

Trump’s bail was a $200,000 US Dollars bond agreement; however, Trump also had to pay the bail of Mark Meadows, his former Chief of Staff, which was around 100,000 US Dollars, which Trump used as an example of the case being an attempt to damage his campaign.

Trump repeatedly mentioned the crime rate in the city of Atlanta, the location of his arrest, a “violent crime warzone”, and blamed the current Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, who “has allowed murder and other Violent Crime to MASSIVELY ESCALATE.”

In addition to calling out Kemp, Trump also directed comments to the District Attorney of Atlanta, Fani Taifa Willis, stating that she “is overseeing one of the Murder and Violent Crime DISASTERS in American History.”

Per Atlanta Police Department statistics, the murder count in the city is 25% lower when compared to 2022.

On August 24th, Trump prepared to fly down to Georgia and get arrested, as he said prior with his social media platform (Truthsocial). “I have to start getting ready to head down to Atlanta , Georgia,” Trump said, “to get ARRESTED by a radical left, Low Life District Attorney, Fanni Willis.” Trump then went down to Georgia to formally get arrested and post bail.

Additionally, Trump has said that the now-famed mugshot has completely backfired, and his campaign has raised more money than usual (Politico.com reports 7.1 million US Dollars was raised within days of his arrest).

Trump claims this arrest was an attack on his political campaign for 2024. In a recent speech given in South Carolina, Trump discussed his road back to the White House. “If we don’t take it [the White House] back in ’24, I really believe we’re not going to have a country left.”
